James opted to enter the single-hander race today with Matthew as "observer". That left myself and Elizabeth ashore to enjoy the resort. James often single hands and seemed to be taking this race fairly seriously. He dumped surplus sails ashore, aong with the fragile solar panels. He then even disconected the inner forestay to make tacking easier. Despite all of this, he finished resoundingly last in his class by over 30 minutes. On the plus sude, there were prizes for al so we are now anothr bottle of Mount Gay Rum richer, and I managed to sell a couple of photos of the other competitors. Most notably was a beautiful 30 sqare metre boat. the same vintage as it's owner, Robin Tattersall, and finished in third.

E spent almost all day in the pool learning to dive, and M joined her after his gruelling day. Tomorrow, James gets the grudge match - same course but as part of a "classics" race.

ReplyDeleteIt always amazes and impresses me that James sails a 50' cruiser single-handed, like a dinghy. Respect (from someone grappling with a 12' Heron)
ReplyDeleteI notice the BCYC burgee fluttering from the Crosstree.
ReplyDeleteWell done Team. Great Photo. One for the wall no doubt.
Best Rufus
Hi Rufus,
DeleteWe've been proudly flying the BCYC burgee all the way across. Unfortunately, it also means that we may need to apply for a replacement on our return!
