Latest Position Day 14

James phoned in at 3pm BST - all well. Position at 7am was 48.21N 20.30W. This puts them significantly slower over night (back at 4.7kts) and with 650nm to Plymouth. Tomorrow afternoon they should cross 15W which puts them back inside the UK Shipping Forecast areas and officially off the "High Seas" so I'm very excited to be able to send them a more familiar forecast then.

Forecast is W'ly 20kts tomorrow (Mon), N'ly 10kts Tuesday, NE'ly 10kt Wednesday, N'ly 10kts Thursday and NW'ly 15kts Friday. Still looking like a Thursday or Friday arrival.

  1. Looking fairly calm on the grib for the remainder of the crossing so I hope this gives them a chance to take stock and get some proper rest. No doubt James will have them varnishing if the opportunity presents. Not sure what the crew's experience has been up to now but they can certainly underline Nth Atlantic crossing in their CV. Giving Angus comparisons of the wave height measured against the ceiling height (and we've got HIGH ceilings) certainly brought things into perspective, "What, all the way up there?"

  2. when I look up their position on Google Maps, I only have to use the 50 miles scale bar to see Europe on the left hand side. They're getting nearer!
