I’m afraid that we’re finding internet access somewhat
challenging now we are back in civilisation. We are staying at anchor rather
than in marinas and wifi does not always extend out into the sheltered bays.
When it does, it is encrypted and requires passwords for access. Getting
laptops ashore dryly is worrisome and then finding a tame hotspot where the
children can also be occupied is challenging. In one case, the whole of Bequia
lost internet for a day just when James had to download and review some vital
work reports to a deadline.
So that those at home don’t fret, here is our itinerary
(in as much as we have one). All the passages are short and we can see the next
island state before leaving the last one. The routes are plied by hundreds of
yachts daily so no harm will befall us, so don’t panic if we’re out of touch
for a while. When we’re under way, we have our AIS turned on so you can see us
via their website.
·
Barbados
·
Grenadines
·
St. Lucia
·
Martinique – hope to spend a week or so here
·
Dominica – a few days
·
Guadaloupe – just anchoring overnight enroute
·
Montserrat – a day or so
·
Antigua – a few days. We want to visit English
Harbour mainly
·
St Kitts or Nevis depending on the wind
direction
·
Saba – overnight if we can get a mooring
·
Statia – two days
·
Maybe St Martin, maybe not
·
Probably skip Anguilla but might anchor
overnight (just full of rich folk and beaches so the guide says)
·
British Virgin Islands – a week exploring
·
Long passage towards Turks and Caicos but hoping
to stop off at Silver Bank in the hope of seeing the calving humpback whales
there. Promise to let you know when we set off for this one. This is our only
planned night passage and is about 400 miles, but we might change our minds and
go to Cuba and then to the Florida Keys!
·
Turks and Caicos – handful of days
·
Bahamas – work our way north steadily
·
Florida – Cape Canaveral and hire car to see
Everglades and maybe Tampa aquarium (motel overnight?)
·
Cape Hatteras – probably offshore as we aren’t
convinced we’ll fit in the Intercoastal Waterway. Planning to skip the
Carolinas but we’ll see
·
Chesapeake – spend some time cruising and
exploring here
·
Sarah flies home from Washington – boat
continues to New York
·
Fresh crew arrive and all sail back in June in
time for BCYC Regatta in Cowes, July.
